Vendela is a fourth year medical student at Karolinska Institutet with a great interest for global health, research and art. Through volunteering with Médecins du Monde at their Stockholm clinic, she first came across healthcare in a global context.
This led her to pursue a career within global healthcare; where previous experiences includes healthcare volunteering with Institute for Indian Mother and Child in Kolkata, a summer malaria research internship in Dakar, being the main coordinator for IFMSA-Sweden sub project Sudan Tropical Exchange Project and research with the Global and Sexual Health group at KI. With a certain interest for tropical medicine, healthcare distribution and global pediatrics and surgery, she hopes to bring awareness and solutions to medical areas in urgent need of resources, both through her research and clinical work.
At the moment, she is involved with several research projects within global pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School where she also will do her thesis. At SOGH, she wishes to expand knowledge about global health news and events through social media. She applied for the position as Communications Manager in order to meet people sharing her interest for global health work, while also nurturing her creative interests. In her free time, she does evening art classes, loves to try new restaurants and travel with her husband.
