Become a summer intern at SOGH, or with our partner OVAAT!

This summer two interesting opportunities are still available! One online internship with the Mama & Family Project team at SOGH, and a fellowship position at One Village At A Time – Uganda Chapter (OVAAT), one of SOGH’s international partners.

Discover more below.

1. Be Creative: rethink and reshape our Mama & Family Project

The Mama & Family Project has been part of SOGH from the very start, in 2014. The COVID-19 pandemic has been a major challenge, and keeping activities going has been more important than ever.

However, even with all our efforts, funds have been hard to secure in the last year and the project is finding itself at a crossroad. We can either continue to find solutions or let go… Obviously we believe that even in the tougher moments we can learn and improve our activities. Therefore, this year we take the opportunity of decreased activities to rethink What could make the project more valuable to local communities? What activities should be prioritized when little funds are available? If funds stops at once, how could the project adapt?

As an intern, you will contribute to the development of this project and our organization as a whole. Transforming a moment of difficulty in a learning experience will benefit both, you and us. Ready for the challenge?

The entire internship will take place online and will last a max of 6-8 weeks.

We don’t ask for any fee to participate in the internship. We also don’t provide any monetary remuneration.

2. Fellowship at OVAAT: a unique opportunity

One Village At A Time Uganda Chapter (OVAAT) is a registered NGO in Uganda, driven by individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people globally starting with one village at a time. OVAAT operates a medical clinic, Naigobya Health Center, that provides basic primary health care to a catchment area in Luuka District – 40,000 people. It also operates a youth resource Centre where youth are empowered to take care of their health and development needs. OVAAT mission is t promote meaningful change around Ugandan communities to help people live healthier, more productive, and more independent lives.

The Global Health Practicum Fellowship gives a unique opportunity to build a platform to advance their careers through developing their skills in intercultural collaboration, organizational management, leadership, and research. Our goal is to provide an immersive, equitable, and life-changing experience, which allows fellows to learn about issues in global health from local communities and with guidance from relevant mentors.

The fellowship will take place in Uganda for a minimum of 4 weeks and remotely for another 2-4 weeks. For a total length of 6-8 weeks.

All expenses shall be covered by the fellow, including accommodation, transport and food within Uganda. OVAAT doesn’t provide any monetary remuneration.

The applicant needs to agree with/fulfill a series of requirements, listed below, before going forward with her/his/their application:

  1. Willing to work in Uganda for a minimum of 4 weeks – Absolutely necessary to understand the context properly and work well with the OVAAT team.
  2. Willing to attend a series of preparatory meetings prior to the fellowship – Compulsory preparatory meetings will be held before traveling to Uganda – hosted by the SOGH team. These meetings will provide information on the local context and guidance on the steps to take before the fellowship (e.g. visa, vaccinations, etc.).
  3. Having already received full COVID-19 vaccination course and Yellow Fever vaccine – If full vaccination has not been administered yet, it would not be possible to travel to Uganda by July 20.
  4. Willing to participate in online work once back – Most likely not all the work will be finalized in Uganda, so please consider at least a couple of weeks of remote work.
  5. Willing to cover all the costs of the fellowship – There is no grant covering this position so international travel, accommodation, food and in-country transport should be cover by the fellow (estimate around $2500/4weeks – leisure activities not included).

More info about the fellowship can be found here.
