Ana is currently a research assistant in the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Karolinska Institutet. Prior to this, she completed a Master of Public Health at the University of Edinburgh and a BS in General Biology from UC San Diego. She spent time working as a community health outreach volunteer in Mozambique, where she realised the important roles that non-clinical factors (i.e. social, cultural, economic, environmental) and local capacity-building have on health outcomes and the implementation and sustainability of interventions. In the future, she hopes to conduct research on how health systems in low- and middle-income countries can account for these non-clinical determinants of health to provide more all-encompassing care for patients, while simultaneously supporting the capacity-building of local communities and stakeholders.
Ana joined SOGH as the website manager because she genuinely believes in their mission, as it reflects her own motivation to conduct global health research. She hopes that as the website manager, she will be able to effectively communicate SOGH’s mission, values, and impact in an approachable manner while providing a friendly resource for people to learn more about global health and how they can get involved.
